Mozambique: Italian government in-kind contribution of humanitarian aid on behalf of Mozambique IDPs

1) Items delivered to Beira from the United Nations Logistic Basein Brindisi, Italy, on march 2.

The operation, which has been co-ordinated by the Emergency Office of General Direction for the Development Co-operation (DGCS) of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs costs a total amount of 250,000 USD.

This is the first humanitarian flight provided by a donor to Mozambique Government which lands in Beira since the start of the floods.

The cargo plane DC-10 has flown to some 36 metric tons of relief aid, including 7,500 jerry cans, 5,500 blankets, 70 multipurpose tents, 70 squatting plates, 6 water storage containers, 2 water tanks, 20 plastic rolls, 700 cooking set, 2 water purification unit, 1 Italian New Emergency Health kit 98 (treatment of 10.000 persons for 3 months), 1 Italian Kit D for Diarrhoea profile and 1 Italian Kit F for support of Kit D (treatment of 100 persons).

2) Items will be delivered to Maputo from the United Nations Logistic Basein Brindisi, Italy, on march 7 and will arrive next day.

The operation, which has been co-ordinated by the Emergency Office of General Direction for the Development Co-operation (DGCS) of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Department of Civil Protection costs a total amount of 250,000 USD.

This is the second humanitarian flight provided by a donor to Mozambique Government which lands in Mozambique since the start of the floods.

The cargo plane IL-76 will bring some 33 metric tons of relief aid, including 7,500 jerry cans, 3,600 blankets, 100 multipurpose tents, 70 squatting plates, 7 water pumps, 20 plastic rolls, 2 water purification unit, 2 preumatic boat with engine,1 Italian New Emergency Health kit 98 (treatment of 10.000 persons for 3 months), 1 Italian Kit D for Diarrhoea profile and 1 Italian Kit F for support of Kit D (treatment of 100 persons).

3) The 28 of february 2007 the Directorate General for Cooperation and Development of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has donated a cash contribution on behalf of UNICEF in response to urgent humanitarian needs. The donation is of 200.000 euros and will cover needs identified by UNICEF.
